I was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and grew up across West Africa and other parts of the world.

 

My roots are richly woven—Yoruba, Igbo, and Ewe—with a Togolese mother and a Nigerian father. I’ve lived in Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and Senegal, and visited Ghana and Benin. There are no words to fully describe my love and reverence for Africa.

But Africa, to me, is more than a landmass. It is a consciousness—a holistic way of being, marked by a profound reverence for nature, for the unseen, for the spiritual. Historically, Africa has occupied a far vaster region—physically, culturally, and spiritually—than what we limit it to today.

I left Nigeria at 16 and transplanted into North America. Since then, I have longed for home and I’ve also learned how to root home in the present, wherever I am. Through the artisanal products, flavors, and craft traditions we share here at Marifa, I offer pieces of that beauty, wisdom, and abundance to you.

Marifa was born from this longing—a longing to stay connected to my beloved Africa, even from afar. I invite you to explore this space, discover its treasures, and carry a bit of her essence with you.
